Dementia Singing group in Nelson

I would like to bring to your attention the change of venue of the new dementia singing group in Nelson - known as “Getting Together”.
As from this week (5 March) the group will meet at the newly refurbished Salvation Army Hall on Stanley Street in Nelson (parallel to Carr Road). It is a superb venue that is warm, welcoming and completely accessible, with a car park. The group continues to meet on Thursday afternoons singing songs from the 40s, 50s and 60s as well as following guidelines from research by the Sidney de Haan Centre at Canterbury University into “Singing and People with Dementia”.
Please forward the attached to anyone who you think may encourage membership. The other advantage with the new venue is that a hot lunch is served on the same day as part of a luncheon club. Click here for flyer

Alzheimer's Society East Lancashire

This year we want to reach people who have a limited understanding of dementia but who may be worried about it for themselves or for someone close to them for the future. We want them to know the following five things about dementia:

1. It’s not a natural part of growing old;
2. It’s caused by diseases of the brain. The most common of these is Alzheimer’s;
3. It’s not just about losing your memory – it can affect thinking, communicating and doing everyday tasks;
4. It’s possible to live well with it;
5. There’s more to a person than the dementia. Get in touch if you'd like to ask anything.
